14 Blades

Another Chinese New Year movie, but more action-packed.

Chinese name: 锦衣卫

This movie stars Donnie Yen as hero Qinglong, mainland actress Zhao Wei as love interest Qiaohua, pop star Wu Chun as outlaw gang leader Judge, former Miss Hong Kong Kate Tsui as seductress Tuotuo, Singapore superstar Qi Yu-wu as Jinyiwei agent Xuan Wu, Sammo Hung as Prince Qing, Damian Lau as Zhao Shenyan, veteran kung fu star Chen Kuan-tai as Water Moon Monk, Wu Ma as Jiao Zhong, and Law Kar-ying as eunuch Jia Jingzhong.

The story is set a few hundred years ago – I think, should be – in China, and tells of how a Prince attempts to overthrow the emperor. The special police of the emperor is overtaken by the eunuchs who are overthrowing the emperor and the one who is loyal is betrayed. Blah blah blah~

The movie summary, here. The official website, here, in both Chinese and English.

The trailer.

Ps> I think I will be watching this really soon, maybe in the next week or so. Can’t wait…

*swoons* Wu Chun *swoons* LOL…

[update on March 18th]

Woohoo~ I finally watched it and it was awesome. And Wu Chun seriously rocks. Haha~ And, YUP, he definitely improved since Butterfly Lovers – with Charlene Choi. The only thing that was sad was that everyone died in the end except Qiaohua (Zhao Wei’s). But all in all, one frigging awesome movie. Hehe~ But as you know, I am a tinny bit prone to bias-ness.

72 Tenants of Prosperity

A new comedy for the 2010 Chinese New Year.

The Chinese name is 72家租客.

This stars Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, Anita Yuen and a whole bunch of other stars make an appearance as well. If I am not mistaken, about 100 ++ stars or celebrities will show up.

The story revolves around 2 families and the 72 tenants of a building in which they stay and are trying to protect from being demolished, or something around that. Haha~

Anyways, the movie summary, here. And the official website, here.

And a trailer.

Ps> I will be watching this on friday, it should be good.

Watched already, and I love it. This is so funny, and a known star appears every five minutes or so it seems. Haha~

Bodyguards and Assassins

Also known as 十月圍城.

A good show, definitely worth watching.

Tells of the time when the Qing dynasty of China was corrupt and at the edge of crumbling, and revolutionary forces all over China join together in Hong Kong, a British colony at that time, to overthrow the dynasty. The movie tells the story of how many people sacrificed their lives so that the revolutionary leader can meet with the others to plan their simultaneous attack. They are the bodyguards, and the assassins are those sent by the Empress Dowager to assassinate the revolutionary leader.

This movie stars Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse, Fan Bingbing, Eric Tsang, Leon Lai and many others.

The movie summary and cast, here.

For me, this movie was really good, although some parts were quite emotional as you see many people sacrificing themselves for someone that they will never meet.

But there is a hilarious part, the horse. If you have watched it, you may know what I mean. But if you haven’t, look out for it, you’ll know what I mean. Haha~

Anyways, I have included the trailers.

The Storm Warriors Movie

Also known as 風雲II is the second live-action film adaptation of popular manhua Fung Wan, after the 1998 movie The Storm Riders, 風雲之雄霸天下.

Both Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok respectively reprises their roles as Wind and Cloud.

The drama summary, here. And the cast, here. And also for the first movie, here.

I think I put too much expectation on this movie because I kinda got really dissappointed in the end. Argh~ My friends and I felt that we wasted our money and should have watched another movie instead (although I can’t remember which movie, I watched this like a month ago, and ah~ sorry for the late reviews).

The effects of the movie was superb, as it was directed and produced by the Pang brothers. But I felt that it was a bit too much, making the movie quite fake, but this is my own personal opinion. And, oh ya~ 80% of the movie was fighthing scenes and 50% to 60% of that 80% was between the two main characters. Although both are good guys, one of them had to become evil so that they are able to defeat Lord Godless, a Japanese who want to conquer China and to be most powerful man, blah blah blah. The typical bad guy.

Anyways, there are two main ladies in the movie, and in my opinion, they are there to distract the two guys when they are fighting for their lives. Haha~ Its true, watch it and you’ll understand what I mean. Although I want to ask why are they in the movie? The answer is always obvious as they are there to, seriously, DISTRACT their loved ones.

Anyways, although this is really late, I have included two trailers.

If you have not watched it in the cinemas, don’t waste your money. If it has finished its run, and you also didn’t catch it, don’t worry, it wasn’t worth it. But if you want to watch it just for the sake of the effects, I am not going to stop you. Haha~
